This patient had a coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) 20 years ago. He has developed atrial fibrillation several years ago but hasn't noticed much of it. He visits my office every year for check-ups. About a year ago he suffered from a syncope, which is why we implanted a REVEAL – an implantable loop recorder. This is an event recorder that continuously measures the pulse. Thanks to this device, we were able to determine that the patient had some pauses, i.e. loss of heart rhythm. We then decided to implant a pacemaker. The surgery was completed yesterday under local anesthesia and today the patient is already able to go home.
