Check-Up

Are you healthy? That makes us very happy! We use all our expertise and experience to make sure it stays that way. Certain heart conditions such as atrial fibrillation have no noticeable symptoms. But certain new activities (e.g. sport) also require a check-up. Precaution and prevention play an important role in our philosophy.

Preventing and Recognizing Cardiovascular disease

Comprehensive pre- and post-operative care for your heart health.

At our clinic, we place particular emphasis on precise and comprehensive preventative and follow-up care for planned procedures. In addition, we also offer follow-up examinations for patients who have started their treatment in another practice. Our aim is to help you maintain your health in the long term so that you remain active and vital into old age. Make your appointment today!

Why is a check-up important?

‘Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death worldwide’. Heart attacks can often occur unexpectedly and without clear warning signs, which emphasises the importance of prevention. They are favoured by various risk factors such as high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels or high blood sugar levels. However, many of these risk factors can be influenced. A heart check-up helps you to recognise your individual risks at an early stage and to take preventive measures that can improve your health and life expectancy.

At our clinic, we customise the heart check-up to your individual needs.

Aim of the check-up:

The main aim of the heart check-up is to identify and treat risk situations at an early stage. The check-up is particularly important if your family (parents, siblings or children) has a history of cardiovascular disease before the age of 60 or sudden and unexplained deaths. A heart check-up is also advisable if you have risk factors such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney disease, nicotine consumption or chronic stress, regardless of your family history.

Our heart check-up includes

  1. Electrokardiogramm (ECG)
The resting ECG measures the heart rate, heart rhythm and the activity of the atria and ventricles while lying down. The recording is made using electrodes on the arms, legs and chest. The results are displayed in curves and are used to diagnose or monitor treatment for most heart diseases.
  2. Stress ECG
During an exercise ECG, cardiac activity is measured during physical exertion on a cycle ergometer. Blood pressure, pulse, heart rhythm and oxygen saturation are monitored while the exertion is gradually increased. This allows us to assess your performance and heart function under stress.
  3. Heart Ultrasound (Echokardiography)
Echocardiography is a painless ultrasound examination that allows us to assess the anatomy of the heart chambers, the pumping function and the heart valves as well as the aorta and carotid arteries.
  4. Bloodpressure (incl. 24-hours-BP measurement)
Blood pressure is an important indicator of the health of the cardiovascular system. Permanently high blood pressure puts a strain on the heart and can increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes and heart failure. As high blood pressure often shows no symptoms, regular measurement is crucial. You can also have a 24-hour blood pressure measurement carried out by us. This involves continuously measuring your blood pressure over the course of a day and a night in order to better recognise fluctuations and high blood pressure at night.
  5. Medication counseling If you are already taking medication for high blood pressure, we will check whether the therapy is effective and may need to be adjusted.
  6. Blood test (Laboratory) A blood test is particularly important during a heart check-up, as it can provide important data on general heart health and the risk of cardiovascular disease:
  • Choleterol: A higher risk of hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) and heart attacks can be caused by elevated cholesterol levels, especially LDL (bad cholesterol) and low HDL (good cholesterol) levels
  • Bloodsugar: If the blood sugar level is high, it may be diabetes or prediabetes. Both increase the likelihood of heart disease, as diabetes affects the blood vessels
  • Kidney function: The levels of creatinine and urea in the blood provide information about kidney function, which is closely linked to heart health. It is possible that impaired kidney function increases the risk of heart problems
  • Minerals and  Electrolytes; Sodium, potassium and calcium are of great importance for the correct functioning of the heart. Deviations can cause disturbances in the heart rhythm
  • Lipoprotein(a) and Apolipoprotein B**: These markers provide more precise data on the risk of heart attacks and atherosclerosis, especially in family members.

A heart check-up is a simple but extremely effective way of monitoring your heart health and recognising potential risks at an early stage. Make an appointment at our practice today - we'll take care of your heart health.

After the check-up!

After your check-up, your doctor will explain the results to you in detail. It is particularly important to us that you understand everything well and know what further steps or treatments may be necessary. If the results show that further examinations by a specialist are necessary, we will be happy to help you arrange the appropriate appointments. We work closely with medical specialists who specialise in all important areas.

We are also happy to coordinate further examinations such as cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, cardiac catheterisation or special cardiac rhythm examinations. This means that your entire treatment always remains in one hand.
