Wim-Jan van Boven

Wim-Jan van Boven is a heart and lungs surgeon from the Netherlands. He was the one who invented the thoracoscopic approach for atrial fibrillation ablation in 2006 and did pioneering work for heart and lung therapy. With Sacha Salzberg he introduced thoracoscopic ablation in Switzerland in 2008. They have several years of joint experience in the surgical ablation of atrial fibrillation.

Dr. van Wim-Jan van Boven is a heart and lung surgeon from the Netherlands, based at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, NL. He is a senior staff surgeon with a very broad surgical expertise. He is currently also working at the Heart & Rhythm Center. Together with Prof. Salzberg they do all thoracoscopic interventions. 

In addition to general cardiac surgery, Dr. van Boven specializes in thoracoscopic surgery (keyhole surgery) on the lungs and heart. His pioneering work really made rhythm surgery minimally invasive. Dr. Van Boven is part of a multidisciplinary team that offers patients tailor-made therapies for various cardiac arrhythmias. At the same time, he is working on the development of a care network for patients with atrial fibrillation.

He lives in Amsterdam with his family and regularly comes to Zurich.
