Horst Sievert

Prof. Dr. Horst Sievert is a world-renowned interventional cardiologist and vascular specialist. He serves as Director of the CardioVascular Center Frankfurt and Professor of Internal Medicine/Cardiology at Goethe University Frankfurt. He also holds key clinical and leadership roles, including Chief Physician at Sankt Katharinen Hospital Frankfurt and Senior Consultant at St. Josefs-Hospital Wiesbaden. Over the course of his career, he has directed numerous cardiac catheterization laboratories and intensive care units across Europe.

Interventionelle Kardiologie

Internationally, Dr. Sievert has held leading positions such as Director of the Peripheral Vascular Laboratory and Structural Heart Program at Washington Hospital Center, D.C., and has been affiliated with institutions including the University of California, San Francisco; Anglia Ruskin University, UK; and Fuwai Yunnan Hospital in China.

With over 80,000 cardiovascular interventions personally performed, Dr. Sievert is considered to be one of the most experienced interventionalists worldwide. He was the first to perform a percutaneous left atrial appendage closure and is regarded as a pioneer in several procedures including PFO and ASD closure, valvuloplasty, TAVR, mitral and tricuspid interventions, PDA closure, paravalvar leak closure and acute stroke therapy. He has also a huge experience in almost all other cardiovascular interventions including percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI, CTO), carotid stenting, peripheral angioplasty (including below the knee interventions), renal and multiorgan denervation and many others.

Dr. Sievert has authored more than 600 peer-reviewed articles, contributed to over 130 book chapters, and delivered more than 3,700 invited lectures across all continents. As principal investigator in over 100 first-in-human trials, he has played a central role in the development of novel cardiovascular devices and techniques.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), European Society of Cardiology (FESC), and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), among others. He has served on editorial boards of leading journals such as JACC, Circulation, EuroIntervention, and Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions.

Dr. Sievert is the founder and director of numerous global congresses including CSI Frankfurt, CSI Asia-Pacific, CSI Africa, CSI America, ICCA, LAA Frankfurt, and D-HF, and continues to co-direct several other major international conferences.

He has received multiple prestigious awards, including the TCT Master Operator Award, ICI Lifetime Achievement Award, PICS & AICS Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Special Contribution Award (China) for pioneering TAVI procedures in China, among many other national and international honors.
